Hardware and apps

OpenBikeControl now ships in hardware. This page lists the products with the protocol built in and the trainer apps that read it. Building one? Start with the specification, then get in touch to be listed here.

Hardware

Stages SB200 indoor smart bike

Announced on 5 October 2026, the SB200 is the first hardware with OpenBikeControl built into its firmware, over both Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi. Its shifters, brake levers and ten customizable buttons reach every supporting app as standard button IDs.

“It’s the first piece of hardware to support the new OpenBikeControl protocol, which is an emerging standard to allow apps and hardware makers a single open standard again.”

Hardware tinkering

OpenBikeControl is open, so you don’t need a hardware maker to get started. A microcontroller and a few buttons on the handlebars are enough to control every app listed above. These community projects get you there.

CyCtlr firmware

Open-source MicroPython firmware for building your own indoor cycling controller. Wire up buttons, switches, a joystick or a steering sensor, describe them in one settings file, and CyCtlr reports them to trainer apps as OpenBikeControl buttons.

Ready-made OpenBikeControl builds include a two-button handlebar remote and a steering mod.
